South Ossetia is an unrecognised country (de facto state) in the Southern Caucasus, one the most secretive and difficult regions to travel in the world, which receives virtually zero tourism.  It exists as a physical border with government and in the minds and language of the Ossetian people but officially according to the UN it is part of Georgia, there have two Ossetian-Georgian wars 1991 & 2008.  The images were taken over one week to the forgotten nation during the week of it’s republic and independence day celebrations.  Much of the capital city Tskhinvali and surrounding villages still bare the scars of the 5 day war in 2008.  The region has seen huge depopulation in recent years and is entirely reliant on Russian aid.
